Press Conference The decision to create this organisation was taken as we saw that the debate and policy surrounding immigration issues in Malta leave a lot to be desired, with the emphasis being always on the problems that immigration poses. This is creating an atmosphere of panic amongst the Maltese public and hostility towards immigrants is on the rise; factors which can potentially lead to the exclusion of immigrants living in Malta.

Just Another Play Banned by the Theocratic Authorities

During this week, a play which was being directed and set up by Adrew Buckle of Unifaun Theater Productions, was banned by the Board of Film and Stage Certification. The play is called Stitching and was written by a very famous playwright called Anthony Neilson who is also currently the Co-Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

 In a reply to Andrew Buckle the chairperson of the Board of Film and Stage Certification, Teresa Friggieri, said that the play was banned because it was too shocking.   

Moviment Graffitti Protests Against USS Barry

Protestors On the 8th January Moviment Graffitti staged a protest in front of USS Barry which was berthed in the Grand Harbour. The group stated that the Maltese government is increasingly being supportive of US foreign policy by increasingly allowing Malta to be used as a miltiary and naval base to the US forces. The group also stated that it is against the entry of any foreign warship in the country.

Demonstration in Solidarity with Palestine

Yesterday a demonstration was staged in Valletta city, in solidarity with the Palestinian people and against the aggression of the Israeli air strikes. A Press Release was signed by Moviment Graffitti, Peace Lab, General Workers Union, Zminijietna, Third World Group, Kopin and Koperattiva Kummerc Gust which condemned both Hamas and the Israeli Government for the the violence but also stated that the excessive use of force by the Israeli Air Force is not justified. The PLO representative to Malta, also attended the protest despite Fatah's claims that Hamas is totally responsible for this bloodshed.

In view of the circumstances which have led Rene Scicluna, a person who works relentlessly in favour of animal rights, to end up incarcerated within the Corradino Correctional Facility, Moviment Graffitti would like to express its solidarity to Rene and his family in this difficult moment and voice its disapproval towards the manner that the Criminal Justice System has dealt with this case.

Recently a Russian fleet sailed in the Mediterranean sea which stopped in Libya and also in Syria where a permanent Russian naval base is being built in the port of Tartus.

Silent Protest Against Budget 2009

The Coffin of Social Justice

Yesterday Moviment Graffitti staged a silent protest, in front of the Parliament building, just before the beginning of the session of the 2009 Budget. The protesters held a coffin with an inscribed; ''Social Justice'' and they were all dressed in black to symbolize the death of social justice with the gas and electric tariff increases. The Maltese government has increased gas and electric tariffs drastically against the wishes of the Malta Council for Social and Economic Development just days before the Budget was announced.
